Word for the Week of 5-21-12

"We want to be saved, but insist that Christ do all the dying. No
cross for us, no dethronement, no dying. We remain king within
the little kingdom of Mansoul and wear our tinsel crowns with all
the pride of a Caesar; but we doom ourselves to shadows and
weakness and spiritual sterility."

- A.W.Tozer.

Isaiah 2:  2 - 4 (NKJV)
Now it shall come to pass in the latter days
That the mountain of the Lord's house
Shall be established on the top of the mountains,
And shall be exalted above the hills;
And all nations shall flow to it.
Many people shall come and say,
"Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
To the house of the God of Jacob;
He will teach us His ways,
And we shall walk in His paths."
For out of Zion shall go forth the law,
And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
He shall judge between the nations,
And rebuke many people;
They shall beat their swords into plowshares,
And their spears into pruning hooks;
Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
Neither shall they learn war anymore.

Word for the Week of 5-14-12

“When our quiet times have become hurried, how can we expect
to give God the adoration that is His due? How can we receive the
guidance that God is waiting to give? How can our hearts catch
the glow of divine fire? How can we have deep fellowship with
those purposes that are really nearest to the heart of God?”
(Keswick 1946 ) – Gordon M. Guinness

Isaiah 55:  1 - 5 (LIVING BIBLE)

"
Say there! Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink—even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine and milk—it’s all free! 2Why spend your money on food that doesn’t give you strength? Why pay for groceries that do you no good? Listen and I’ll tell you where to get good food that fattens up the soul!

3Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, for the life of your soul is at stake. I am ready to make an everlasting covenant with you, to give you all the unfailing mercies and love that I had for King David. 4He proved my power by conquering foreign nations. 5You also will command the nations, and they will come running to obey, not because of your own power or virtue, but because I, the Lord your God, have glorified you.

Word for the Week of 5-7-12

Revival is a renewed conviction of sin and repentance, followed by an intense desire to live in obedience to God. It is giving up one's will to God in deep humility.
- Charles Finney

I Corinthians 10:  1 - 12
 Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.

Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play." Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell; nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents; 10 nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.
11 Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.  12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

Word for the Week of 4-30-12

THE PROPHET IS ONLY USEFUL SO LONG AS HE IS STONED
AS A PUBLIC NUISANCE CALLING US TO REPENTANCE, DISTURBING
OUR COMFORTABLE ROUTINES, BREAKING OUR RESPECTABLE
IDOLS, SHATTERING OUR SACRED CONVENTIONS."

-A. G. GARDINER.

Amos 8:  11
"Behold, the days are coming," says the Lord God,
"That I will send a famine on the land,
Not a famine of bread,
Nor a thirst for water,
But of hearing the words of the Lord.

Word for the Week of 4-23-12

"To some of you we say, Go forward rather than pray. Think not
that we would, as these words might imply, cast discredit on
prayer. But, beloved our hearts are deceitful, and although we
should at every moment have an upward eye and a thirsting heart
for the guidance and the presence of the living God, still there are
times and circumstances when it becomes almost a sin to pray.
Sometimes it is unbelief that makes us pray, or rather seem to pray,
else what does that word mean, ''Why criest thou unto me? speak
unto the children of Israel that they go forward.'"(Ex 14:15)

- William C. Burns

II Cor 5:  12 - 18
12 For we do not commend ourselves again to you, but give you opportunity
to boast on our behalf, that you may have an answer for those who boast in
appearance and not in heart. 13 For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God;
or if we are of sound mind, it is for you. 14 For the love of Christ compels us,
because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; 15 and He died
for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him
who died for them and rose again.
16 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even
though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him
thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old
things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

"When filled with holy truth the mind rests." - C.H. Spurgeon

Luke 10:  17 - 20, "17 Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord,
even the demons are subject to us in Your name."18 And He said to them,
"I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I give you the authority
to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and
nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that
the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written
in heaven.""

Word for the Week of 4-9-12

"In the Irish Revival of 1859, people became so weak that they
could not get back to their homes. Men and women would fall by the
wayside and would be found hours later pleading with God to save
their souls. They felt that they were slipping into hell and that nothing
else in life mattered but to get right with God... To them eternity
meant everything. Nothing else was of any consequence. They felt
that if God did not have mercy on them and save them, they were
doomed for all time to come."

 - Oswald J. Smith

Gal 5:  1 (NKJV)
Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made
us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

Word for the Week of 4-2-12

"Revival is the people of God constrained, gripped, overmastered,
and overwhelmed by the love of Christ, so that they are feverishly
restless to win souls for Christ." - James A. Stewart

John 19:  17 - 22 (NKJV)
The King on a Cross
17 And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place
of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha, 18 where they crucified
Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the
center. 19 Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the
writing was:

JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

20 Then many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus
was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Greek,
and Latin.
21 Therefore the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, "Do not write,
'The King of the Jews,' but, 'He said, "I am the King of the Jews."'"
22 Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written."

"A dark hour makes Jesus bright."
-Robert Murray McCheyne

II Peter 1:  3 - 8

as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to
life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us
by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly
great and precious promises, that through these you may be
partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that
is in the world through lust.
But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your
faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to
self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness
brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these
things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful
in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these
things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he
was cleansed from his old sins.
10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and
election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;

Word for the Week of 3-19-12

"My main ambition in life is to be on the Devil's most wanted list."
Leonard Ravenhill

Psalm 121 (NKJV)
God the Help of Those Who Seek Him
121 I will lift up my eyes to the hills-
From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.
He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper;
The Lord is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night.
The Lord shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.
The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore.
